"As the cybersecurity expertise center for the Dutch healthcare sector and chair of the European Health ISAC, we emphasize the importance of close collaboration at the European level," responds Wim Hafkamp, director of Z-CERT.
Initiatives such as the Zorg Detectie Netwerk, developed by Z-CERT in the Netherlands, can be scaled up into a powerful European network with the support of ENISA and the European Health ISAC. This will enable hospitals to share threat information more quickly and limit the impact of cyberattacks.
"The ransomware attack on a major hospital in Madrid in 2023 underscores the urgent importance of speed. Information that currently often only becomes available after a month must be shared on the same day to prevent new victims. When this information is missing, the door remains open for attackers to use the same methods against other organizations. In the Netherlands, we have shown that rapid, targeted action in close collaboration with, for example, hospitals is essential to effectively address vulnerabilities," says Hafkamp.
Z-CERT, together with European partners, will continue to work on the further development of a secure and resilient European healthcare network.
